Chantimor’s Famous Chocolate Cake


OK – so you all want to know how to make THE chocolate cake which I made for Dave’s party.

The quantities given below are for an 8inch square tin.


200g good quality dark cooking chocolate

200g salty butter

250g caster sugar

5 eggs

1 rounded soup spoon of S.R flour

1 coffee spoon of raising agent


Preheat the oven to 180°

Line a square baking tin with greaseproof paper

Melt the chocolate & butter in a bain-marie (bowl over boiling water)

Stir in the sugar

Put to one side to allow to cool a little before adding the eggs

Whisk the eggs in, one by one

Fold in the flour & raising agent

Pour into baking tray & cook in the middle of the oven for about 20 mins.

When you take it out of the oven the centre should be raised but « trembling » (not set).

Allow to cool completely before taking out of the baking paper.

The top will crack as it cools – this is normal.

When cool, sprinkle grated chocolate, chocolate powder, or icing sugar on the top.

Can be served as a cake, or as a dessert with cream, red fruits or a coulis.
