Here’s Geoff & Martyn taking the roles of lead Shanty Men, singing « Sally Brown » at the Lanvaudan music festival, « Terres Fertiles ».
As with the previous song, the wind was blowing pretty strongly, which causes a bit of noise distortion.
Now, if you’d like to sing along with us – this is the chorus:
« Way, hey, Roll and Go.
And we rolled all night, and we rolled till day,
Gonna spend my money on Sally Brown. »
(BTW, Roll ‘n Go is the title of our CD, which has lots of sing-a-long tracks!)
Ready? – here we go…. « SALLY BROWN »!
You’ve seen the photos, you’ve heard the CD…
Now here’s what you’ve all been waiting for….
…..Yes, it’s CHANTIMOR in action.
All comments welcome!
Lanvaudan is a pretty village set deep in the Morbihan countryside in Brittany, France.
Every year they have a two day music festival. The musicians & singers are positioned around the village in nooks & crannies, in people’s sheds & garages and outside their front doors.
Check out this lovely house!
Chantimor were positioned in another part of the village outside Fred & Kiki’s garage.
It was tempting to go inside as it was pretty nippy and jolly windy and there was a bit of competition from a nearby rock group, who were playing loudly through amps.
Nevertheless,Chantimor attracted quite a crowd.
So a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who braved the wind and stayed with us for the entire set.
And a MERCI MILLE FOIS to the people who bought our CD!
Now, I have to confess that I’m not a great fan of the violin – years of listening to beginners scratching away and making a sound like twenty screeching tom-cats when I was in the school orchestra put me right off it.
But I do like Stéphane Grappelli, and I’ve heard our very own Terry play a mean fiddle, so I’ve started to come round to accepting it just a tiny bit.
So when Nigel Kennedy sauntered on stage last night in the Albert Hall at « The Last Night of the Proms 2013 », wearing his Aston Villa shirt & drinking a cup of tea, I thought I’d pay attention and see what the guy could do.
Wow! Can he mess around brilliantly with a fiddle, or what!
This is for any of you who might have missed it last night!
If you stick with it, you’ll see & hear an amazing technique. The arrangement of full of humour, passion and delicacy. Oh, and it’s completely anarchic, so if you are a purist, turn away now.
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
See you all soon!
